Tahiti: ‘Gauguin revisited’
In the fall of 1999 Jurriaan van Hall was asked by art-dealer Paul van der Spek to visit Tahiti in a project that could be named ‘Gauguin revisited’. During five weeks Jurriaan followed Gauguin’s steps from Tahiti to the Marquesas islands of Fatu Hiva and Hiva Oa where he arrived during the rituals of All Saint’s Day (‘Toussaint’), and visited the graves of Gauguin and Jacques Brel in Atuona. Jurriaan kept a diary and created twenty five paintings, of which some are shown on this page.
